Well… that’s not entirely true.
With the help of cognitive linguistics, I can show you that there are patterns behind phrasal verbs — based on the meanings of particles (like up, out, off) and how we mentally structure language.
Once you understand these patterns, you’ll be able not only to recognise meanings, but even predict them — without relying on endless memorisation.

About me
Hi! I’m Emma Haimes — the teacher behind Haimes English.
I’m a native English speaker with a passion for language and communication, and I teach English with care and a focus on what truly helps learners feel more confident and connected.
Before becoming a teacher, I worked for several years as a flight attendant. That job took me all over the world and taught me how valuable it is to speak English well in real-life situations — not just in theory. Whether you’re at the airport, in a hotel, at work, or travelling abroad, the English you need is often fast, natural, and full of expressions you won’t find in a textbook. Those experiences shaped how I teach today: I focus on real, useful English that helps you function in the world, not just pass a test.
I hold a degree in Education Studies from London, along with TEFL and Advanced TEFL certifications, with a focus on exam preparation.
I’m also currently studying for a Master’s in Language Sciences at the University of Parma, where I explore a range of language acquisition approaches. I often draw on ideas from cognitive linguistics to make challenging topics like phrasal verbs more intuitive and easier to use in real conversation.
My aim is to help people speak English naturally — without constantly translating — and to feel confident that they’re using the right English in the right context.

Outside the school environment, we’ve also worked with local businesses — including a regional wine company — delivering customised training focused on improving professional communication in English.
